Genres

The ancients classed all literature into the following:

  1. Rhetoric
  2. Law
  3. Epic
  4. Tragedy
  5. Comedy
  6. Lyric Poetry
  7. History
  8. Medicine
  9. Mathematic
  10. Natural Science

Obviously there are some works which parts fall into many genres, and others which are altogether extraordinary.

For Chinese:

My use of Wade-Giles for Chinese is not an endorsement of Taiwanese independence. It’s the traditional English translation of Chinese names.
