Genres
The ancients classed all literature into the following:
- Rhetoric
- Law
- Epic
- Tragedy
- Comedy
- Lyric Poetry
- History
- Medicine
- Mathematic
- Natural Science
Obviously there are some works which parts fall into many genres, and others which are altogether extraordinary.

Translation recommendations prioritize:
- Being based on majority text types, i.e. non-critical.
- Use archaic, or older, language, which is less demeaned.
Considered also, of course, is the character of the translator.
For Christian:
Where translation is unspecified, presume the Nicæne & Post-Nicæne Fathers series.
For Greek:
Where translation is unspecified, I generally recommend the Loeb Library where others—or at any rate good—aren’t available.
The Alexander “Romance” text-type most widely recieved by the Romans was the β-type MSS.
For Chinese:
My use of Wade-Giles for Chinese is not an endorsement of Taiwanese independence. It’s the traditional English translation of Chinese names.
